Just shut down my youtube channel that dates back 20 years. No great loss since I either privated or deleted my videos on a routine basis. I love making videos and I stand by my statement that youtube premium is one of the best value propositions there are. Far exceeding any other streaming service.

It just doesn't feel like there's any point anymore. The algorithm will never favor my content, monetizing the channel is completely pointless, the amount of interaction you get with viewers is minimal and you get retroactively punished as youtube updates their ruleset. That last one is the true reason I'm departing.

Now that the american government is socializing companies and forcing them to bend the knee to an extent that we haven't seen before it feels like stepping over a line that doesn't actually exist today.. but will in some amount of time.. is inevitable. I truly don't care about my youtube channel, it's always been for fun, but with google taking down your entire google account and preventing you from making new ones? Good grief.

I'm using degoogled devices with the google services removed, but I'm also using devices with the google services since the play store is what makes android so excellent. It would actually hurt me if I lost my account.

Now that cancel culture is being embraced not just by the american left but also the american right it feels like being a casual observer of their madness is not possible anymore. You will be dragged into it no matter if you want to or not. If you lack the right-think of whatever administration is currently in power you'll get burned at the stake. And then the right-think changes for the next administration and the cycle repeats.

So, I'm moving to several other video networks where I don't really care if they ban my account. I haven't quite settled upon which yet, although the reborn odysee is likely one.
