Cook County Sheriff’s Police conducted our first of many enhanced expressway patrols targeting drivers using the shoulder to bypass slower traffic. In just a few hours, we pulled over and ticketed more than 100 vehicles, 49 of which were captured on video riding the shoulder by our new police helicopter. Using the shoulder to pass slower traffic is dangerous and can lead to catastrophic accidents. Violations carry up to a $1000 fine. Please be aware if you’re driving on the shoulder, we will pull you over!
