Lent
S. Gregory the Great, Pope, Confessor and Doctor of the Church
℣. O God, ✠ come to my assistance.
℟. O Lord, make haste to help me.
℣. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost.
℟. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.
── Hymn ──
O kind Creator, bow thine ear
To mark the cry, to know the tear
Before thy throne of mercy spent
In this thy holy fast of Lent.
Our hearts are open, Lord, to thee:
Thou knowest our infirmity;
Pour out on all who seek thy face
Abundance of thy pardoning grace.
Our sins are many, this we know;
Spare us, good Lord, thy mercy show;
And for the honour of thy name
Our fainting souls to life reclaim.
Give us the self-control that springs
From discipline of outward things,
That fasting inward secretly
The soul may purely dwell with thee.
We pray thee, Holy Trinity,
One God, unchanging Unity,
That we from this our abstinence
May reap the fruits of penitence.
Amen.
── Psalms ──
Ant. Behold how good * and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.
Psalm 132
Behold how good and how pleasant it is * for brethren to dwell together in unity:
Like the precious ointment on the head, * that ran down upon the beard, the beard of Aaron,
Which ran down to the skirt of his garment: * as the dew of Hermon, which descendeth upon mount Sion.
For there the Lord hath commanded blessing, * and life for evermore.
℣. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost.
℟. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.
Ant. Give ye glory to the Lord * for his mercy endureth for ever.
Psalm 135:1-9
