Solana Network Sees Significant Drop in Validator Count, Reaching 2021 Lows
The Solana blockchain has experienced a notable decline in its daily validator count, falling below 800 nodes. This marks the lowest level since 2021 and represents a substantial decrease from the peak of approximately 2,500 validators observed at the start of 2023. In less than three years, the number of active validators has dropped by over 65%.
Validators are independent nodes that run Solana's software, responsible for verifying transactions and creating new blocks on the network. The reduction in validator numbers has directly impacted the network's \"voting transactions,\" which validators submit to confirm blocks. The volume of these transactions has fallen from around 300,000 daily to 170,000. Despite this decrease in validator activity, non-voting transactions have remained relatively stable, with approximately 100 million processed daily.
